BEIJING, Nov. 20 (Xinhua) -- The electronic information industry of Southwest China's Sichuan Province is developing towards an industry with industrial scale of one trillion yuan.
Based on the relatively complete electronic industry and scientific research system established in the 1950s, Sichuan Province has formed an electronic information industry chain system covering integrated circuits, new display and digital audio-visual products, terminal manufacturing, software research and development, and mobile Internet applications.
Sichuan made China's first monochrome picture tube in 1959. Nowadays, it has attracted a large number of well-known enterprises in electronic information industry including Intel, Texas Instruments and BOE.
Among the five pillar industries of Sichuan, the electronic information industry is likely to be the first one achieving one trillion yuan in main business revenue, said Chen Xinyou, director of Sichuan Provincial Economic and Information Department.
According to the statistics released by the department, the added value of Sichuan's electronic information industry increased 12.7 percent in the first eight months of this year. In 2018, the main business revenue of its electronic information industry reached 925.8 billion yuan, ranking the first in China's central and western regions.
The rapid development of Sichuan's electronic information industry can be attributed to the continuous research and development.
"We invest a lot in research and development every year, developing new technologies and bringing many new and practical functional experiences to users," said Zhong Bo, chairman of Chengdu XGIMI Technology Co.,Ltd..
In 2018, Sichuan's investment in research and development totaled 73.71 billion yuan, with a year-on-year increase of 15.6 percent, exceeding 70 billion yuan for the first time.
Sichuan is one of the five national software industry bases and the third largest game product development and operation center in China. Selected as one of the national-level pilot zones for innovation and development of the digital economy in October of this year, the province is expected to hail further development for its digital economy.
