In recent years, especially since the implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative, China and UAE have maintained close, frequent policy coordination at multiple levels and in various fronts.
First, the exchange between the two sides at all levels was frequent. Major leaders of China and the UAE exchanged state visits in 2018 and 2019, not to mention numerous exchange visits between each other's government departments at all levels.
Second, the policy coordination through multilateral channels between the two sides was active. China and the UAE maintained sound policy coordination in many international and regional organizations with global clout, like China-Arab States Cooperation Forum (CASCF) and the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation.
Third, the two sides signed many bilateral documents. For example, in 2015, China and the UAE jointly established a strategic investment fund worth 10 billion U.S. dollars in an effort to further deepen practical cooperation between the two countries. In addition, the leaders of the two countries also reached many agreements on trade, justice, tourism, finance, education, investment and other fields during exchange visits.
Notably, the principles of innovative, coordinated, green, open, and shared development put forward by the Chinese government coincide with the "innovation- and talent-led development model" advocated by the UAE government. In this connection, China and the UAE should strengthen the alignment in innovation and knowledge economy development strategies and promote cooperation in energy, production capacity, finance, high technology, people-to-people engagement and other fields to drive the comprehensive and in-depth development of China-UAE strategic partnership.
As the UAE plays an increasingly important role in the building of the Belt and Road Initiative, the policy coordination between the two countries will continue to deepen. Under the framework of China's effort to develop a future-oriented China-UAE strategic partnership, China and UAE will continue to strengthen policy coordination and accelerate integrated development, in an effort to safeguard current multilateral trading systems and make economic globalization more open, inclusive, balanced and beneficial for all.
