Mr. Wirasak Wangsuphakijkosol, deputy minister of the Ministry of Commerce (MOC), revealed that the Department of Business Development has been ordered to offer an urgent training for service operators, namely a seminar co-organized with the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) and LAZADA (Thailand) in five provinces, with a theme "Expanding Customer Base to Grow Business-Go Online". Provinces involved include: Chumphon Province (November 21, 2019), Uttaradit Province (November 28, 2019), Nong Khai Province (December 12, 2019), Chaiyaphum Province (December 19, 2019), and Nonthaburi Province (December 23, 2019). The seminar is designed to train over 300 cases of service operators, and combine service industry with tourism for common development, so as to unleash the potential of each region; it also aims to teach operators marketing content techniques and enhance their workshop ability, and make them capable of offering services at online platforms immediately after relevant courses end.
According to the MOC Deputy Minister, the seminar will help operators creating more business opportunities and business channels by working out marketing strategy, and shifting from conventional concept to using promotion or e-Marketplace to attract customers. It will make it easier for operators to reach out to customers and respond to the changes in 5.0 era in a better way. Afterwards, 100 companies countrywide will be chosen to receive "One on One Coaching" in-depth training in business premises, including analyzing and formulating solutions for relevant problems, and customizing business operation model for each company to enhance their business added value. Interested operators in the above-mentioned five pilot provinces can apply to attend the seminar at www.dbd.go.th.
According to the National Economic and Social Development Council (NESDC) and the Office of SMEs Promotion (OSMEP), in 2018, service industry generated GDP 7.1 trillion baht, accounting for 43.5 percent of the country's total. The number of service companies recorded 1.2 million, accounting for 40 percent of Thailand's total companies. During the past six years, the service industry registered an export amount of 75.354 billion baht, up 12 percent, while the increase rate of Thailand's product export volume was only 1 percent. That shows the obvious growth potential of Thailand's service industry.
According to the MOC Deputy Minister, the overall e-commerce development of Thailand in 2018 was also remarkable, with a total trading volume of 3.2 billion baht and a growth rate of 12 percent. Contributing factors include: 90 percent people using mobile phones for online shopping, and payment via mobile banking and internet banking. E-commerce growth will prompt more services to be channeled into online market, which will hold the key to the survival of operators amid digital disruption.
