Ms. Narumon Pinyosinwat, spokesperson of the Prime Minister office, revealed the results made in the meeting between Thai Prime Minister and Defense Minister Prayiut Chan-o-cha and Japan's Prime Minister Mr. Shinzo Abe during the 35th ASEAN Summit and other meetings.
Thai Prime Minister welcomed Japan's Prime Minister for his visit to Thailand after six years; he was glad to see the joint statement "Strengthening Connection" released by ASEAN and Japan after the 22nd ASEAN-Japan Summit; he said that he hoped to see closer ASEAN-Japan cooperation under the framework of the ASEAN Outlook on Indo-Pacific, especially in smart city development, financial services, HR development, and marine waste management.
Thai Prime Minister also expected Japanese government to offer support to ASEAN-Japan connection, HR development, and environmental protection. Thai Prime Minister praised Japan for the results it made during its chairmanship of the G20 Summit, particularly the connectivity strategy "G20 Principles on Quality Infrastructure Investment", which has played a key role in guiding regional and sub-regional connectivity.
Japanese Prime Minister praised Thailand for the important role it played during its ASEAN chairmanship, especially the results made by Thai Prime Minister, who acted as a leader, in pushing for a series of meetings vital for regional development of ASEAN; Japan will keep close cooperation with Thailand and work together to cope with major challenges facing ASEAN.
The two prime ministers welcomed the cooperation between the two countries' SMEs and startups. On November 2, large firms and startups from Thailand and Japan signed six MOUs, aiming to promote bilateral cooperation among business departments, and advance innovation and modern technology development in Thailand. The signing of the above-mentioned MOUs has responded to the Thai government's startups promotion policy under the Innospace (Thailand) program.
Thailand and Japan will cooperate to boost the development of the Third World countries. On October 31, 2019, the two countries signed the Memorandum on Japan-Thailand Partnership Programme Phase 3, seeking to expand their existing cooperation in promoting the development of the Third World countries; by harnessing the best practices, knowledge, and concepts of Thailand and Japan, they will offer assistance for the development of the Greater Mekong Subregion and ASEAN countries.
Besides, the two prime ministers also discussed on their cooperation in regional development, such as the cooperation under the ASEAN framework and the G20 framework with Thailand and Japan as host countries this year, the cooperation under the Ayeyawady -Chao Phraya-Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy (ACMECS), the cooperation under the Mekong-Japan framework, the cooperation in Thailand's target industries, the cooperation in the infrastructure building of the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC), and the cooperation in Rakhine State's situations and Thailand-Japan cultural and sports cooperation.
In conclusion, Thai Prime Minister wished Japan a successful 2020 Olympic Games.
