BEIJING, Oct. 12 (Xinhua) -- China National Salt Industry Corporation (CNSIC) and China Economic Information Service (CEIS) of Xinhua News Agency on Friday jointly released the Xinhua-CNSIC series price indices in Beijing.
The price indices are aimed at objectively reflecting the price trend of salt products in China, providing decision-making basis for the market and the competent authorities, and promoting the formation of a credible value benchmark.
The indices currently include the price index of edible salt and that of the industrial salt for manufacturing of soda ash and caustic soda which respectively reflect market price changes of edible salt and industrial salt in the key regions of China.
According to the monitoring results, since the base period (January 2018), the price index of edible salt has increased steadily, and the price index of industrial salt has risen slightly with the fluctuation range larger than that of the edible salt in the same period.
Li Yaoqiang, chairman of CNSIC, said that the compilation of the salt price indices is of great significance to mastering the economic information in links such as production, circulation, consumption and investment, reflecting and monitoring the trends of the domestic salt industry, and promoting high-quality development of the entire salt industry.
On the one hand, the price index provides a convenient pricing reference for the trade of industrial salt, which can reduce the cost of trust and improve the trade efficiency. On the other hand, it provides an effective monitoring tool for the price changes of edible salt, and truly plays its role as a vane and barometer, according to Xu Yuchang, chairman of CEIS.
Founded in 1950, CNSIC is one of the large state-owned enterprises with the supervision of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission (SASAC) of the State Council. In addition to the core business of salt, CNSIC also extends to the salt chemical industry. It has formed the industrial distribution of inorganic chemicals, agricultural chemicals, fine chemicals and cosmetics.
CEIS is the main body responsible for the integrated management and operation of Xinhua News Agency's economic information. It undertakes the four major information service platforms including the national financial information platform "Xinhua Finance", the Belt and Road-centered comprehensive information service platform "Xinhua Silk Road", the national credit information service platform “Xinhua Credit” and the "Xinhua Indices".
