BEIJING, Sept. 18 (Xinhua) -- The Second International Green Energy Development Conference is scheduled to be held in Yangzhong City, east China's Jiangsu Province in October 15-16.
Themed "global green energy application and urban high-quality development", the conference will invite related officials, experts and enterprisers to discuss the current hot spots and difficulties of green energy development, and explore new ideas, new methods, and new measures for the green energy applications. The latest global green energy technologies and practical cases will also be displayed at the conference.
Yangzhong, an island city in the lower reach of Yangtze River, is setting a good example for the urban transformation towards green development and ecological civilization construction, thanks to its efforts in promoting green energy for high-quality development in the recent years.
Earlier in 2015, Yangzhong issued a six-year plan to build it into a green energy island with high standards. Under the plan, it has systematically promoted a clean, low-carbon, safe and efficient high-renewable energy production and consumption model.
The city has also introduced supporting policies successively and focused on building the solar power application scenarios such as industrial plants, residential roofs, and green travel.
By the end of 2018, Yangzhong had completed the construction of more than 200 rooftop PV projects with an installed capacity of about 160 MW. More than 4,700 households installed the residential rooftop PV facilities, with an installed capacity of 22 MW. A total of 193 new energy vehicles were promoted and about 119 public new energy charging facilities were built.
Leading enterprises in Yangzhong have also actively advanced the new energy production and consumption for green development.
For example, in the plant area of Jiangsu Huantai Group, a 7.68 MW rooftop distributed PV station has been built, with an annual power generation capacity of 8.44 million kWh, which will save 2,785 tons of standard coal annually.
In addition, Huantai Group has worked with Tongwei Group to build two fishery-PV integrated demonstration projects in Yangzhong, totaling 30MW, with an average annual output value of about 35 million yuan.
Thanks to its efforts in promoting the green energy, the city had seen its energy consumption per unit of GDP drop from 0.2094 tons of standard coal in 2016 to 0.1616 tons of standard coal in 2018.
Yin Min, secretary of the CPC Yangzhong Municipal Committee, said that Yangzhong will continuously adhere to ecological priorities and green development. By 2020, the city aims to achieve coal-free objective in the main island and the residents' electricity consumption will be 100-percent green. (Edited by Hu Pingchao, hupingchao@xinhua.org)
