NANNING, Aug. 27 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Health Information and Big Data Association (CHIBDA) and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Big Data Development Bureau recently hosted a seminar on AI's application in medical field in Nanning, Guangxi, aiming to offer best practices for the development of AI application in medical care in Guangxi.
With "AI+medical imaging" as the starting point, the forum brought together over 30 guests from local governments and academic, medical and industrial communities to share insights on the cooperation among government, university and business in medical AI.
An medical AI expert shares cutting-edge insights at the seminar
At the meeting, Chen Ziyi, a professor of University of Notre Dame, IEEE Fellow and ACM distinguished scientist, Chi Ying, AI technology supervisor of medical AI with Alibaba DAMO Academy, and Gao Haojian, a senior fellow with VCBeat Research, shared their insights from different perspectives, involving topics such as how global technology development has propelled AI medicine, how should innovative businesses use technology products to advance industrial development, and the opportunities and challenges of medical AI industry.
Considering Guangxi's local conditions, the experts also exchanged ideas on issues including the cooperation between AI enterprises and hospitals, and how should supervisors propel industrial development, offering valuable suggestions for the development of medical AI in Guangxi.
The plan of "Healthy Guangxi" is a key move of Guangxi in pushing for the integration, openness and sharing of government medical care information and public health medical database, said Xi Yang, director of Guangxi Big Data Development Bureau.
The project will help eliminating information isolation and shaping an environment for the normative, innovation-driven application and development of medical big data. A new model of "Internet+ medical care services" will be used to nurture and develop new business forms, and support the efforts of deepening medical care reform, said Xi.
In recent years, AI has become an important strategy of many countries, and Chinese government is not an exception. In the development planning for artificial intelligence released by the State Council in July 2017, the guidance, strategic objective, key tasks and guarantee measures for China to pursue a new generation of AI by 2030 were proposed, with intelligent medicine as among the key tasks.
Guangxi attaches great importance to AI's application in health field. Taking advantage of the construction of China-ASEAN Information Harbor, it is building itself as an high ground and role model in the application of medical big data facing the ASEAN.
Leveraging on the 1st China-ASEAN AI Summit, which will be held in Nanning this September, Guangxi Big Data Development Bureau will work with Tianchi platform of Alibaba Cloud to hold the Guangxi-Global Data Intelligence Challenge.
It’s learned that the competition has attracted 1,635 teams of some 100 enterprises and institutions from 12 countries and regions, including Huiying Medical Technology, United Imaging, YITU, Deepwise and other famous medical AI enterprises and research institutes in China. The competition will contribute to the combined development of big data, AI and medical industry, and shape a new name card of "Healthy Guangxi" through technical exchanges, faster cross-sectoral integration.
