MILAN, Aug 26 (Class Editori) -- Eni received a new exploration block in Indonesia. Eni, together with partners Pertamina and Neptune, was awarded the West Ganal gas field, in the deep waters of the Kutei basin, Indonesia, after the second "conventional oil and gas bidding round 2019 "announced by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources of the Asian country.
Eni explained that West Ganal is a new Gross split production sharing contract (PSC), which covers an area of approximately 1,129 square kilometers bordering the PSCs operated by Eni from Muara Bakau and East Sepinggan, in the Makassar strait, in the offshore of East Kalimantan. The group led by chief executive Claudio Descalzi underlined that this further assignment in the Kutei Basin consolidates the strategic cooperation with Pertamina and Neptune Energy, partner of the Muara Bakau joint venture active in the Jangkrik field.
"The block includes the discovery of Maha, with gas resources in place estimated at around 17 billion cubic meters of gas and further exploration potential, whose development projects and related time-to-market will benefit from the proximity to the infrastructure of Jangkrik operated by Eni, in line with the near field strategy of optimizing synergies with existing infrastructures, and then that "this assignment further strengthens Eni's upstream business portfolio in Indonesia, in the Kutei basin of eastern Kalimantan, one of the areas more promising for hydrocarbon potential".
In May 2017, in the PSC of Muara Bakau, Eni started production at the Jangkik field and in April 2018 obtained the approval of the development plan for the Merakes discovery, located in the East Sepinggan PSC. "This new project will further increase the availability of gas, both for the domestic market and for export, allowing Eni to expand into the constantly growing market in the Asia-Pacific area", concluded Eni.
