COLOMBO, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) -- The Sri Lankan government has declared a mega China-funded Port City as an urban development area under the state-owned Urban Development Authority (UDA).
"According to the powers vested in the Minister of Megapolis and Western Development, Patali Champika Ranawaka, under the section 3 of the Urban Development Authority, the Colombo Port City is declared as an Urban Development Area," the government information department said in a statement on Tuesday.
Sri Lanka's Parliament approved a motion presented by the government to include the Colombo Port City to be a part of the island country's capital Colombo last month.
Subsequently the land belonging to Colombo Port City, which was reclaimed from the sea will now be under the authority of the Colombo Divisional Secretariat.
The mega port city, being constructed close to the Colombo harbor, is one of Sri Lanka's largest foreign direct investment.
