BEIJING, Aug. 19 (Xinhua) – Yantai city of east China's Shandong province plans to build four marine ranch belts based on its existing marine ranches, eyeing for a leading marine ranch demonstration zone in China, according to a source with Yantai municipal bureau of marine development and fisheries.
Boosting a sea area of 26,000 square kilometers with one tenth of which is suitable for high quality marine ranches, Yantai is one of the country’s first batch of marine ranch pilots.
So far, the city has established 23 provincial-level and above piloting sites with total area of marine ranches reaching 1 million mu (about 666.67 square kilometers). Marine ranch aquatic product output reached 600,000 tonnes, with comprehensive revenue reaching 30 billion yuan.
Yantai is drafting marine ranch development plan for 2019-2025 under which four belts and 20 clusters would be developed to accelerate fishery upgrading from traditional to modern and from offshore to deep sea. Also, information technology as well as relevant equipment industries will also be enhanced to better support the “smart ranch” development path, according to the source with the bureau.
