Passenger planes are once again to be built at Leipzig/Halle Airport. The production of the Dornier 328 turboprop will be resumed, Saxony’s Ministry of Economics announced in Dresden on Wednesday. The exact plans will be presented next week at the National Aviation Conference in Schkeuditz. Representatives of 328 Support Services, the company that holds the type certificate for the short-haul aircraft, and the US company Sierra Nevada Corporation will also announce the creation of a new aircraft manufacturer. The "Leipziger Volkszeitung" newspaper reported on Wednesday that 300 new jobs are to be created at the production site.
On Tuesday the operators of Leipzig/Halle Airport had already announced plans to expand the freight business at the site. 500 million euros is to be invested in various areas, including a new hangar, the expansion of an apron and a second Cargo City. This will entail the creation of hundreds of new jobs.
