NANNING, Aug. 14 (Xinhua) -- The First China-ASEAN AI Summit is scheduled to be held in Nanning, the capital city of south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in September 7-9.
The summit, themed "Engaged with AI, Engaged with Future", will be attended by government officials, AI experts and entrepreneurs from home and abroad to discuss development of artificial intelligence (AI) in China and ASEAN countries, Xi Yang, head of the summit's major organizer Big Data Development Bureau of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, said in a news briefing held here on Tuesday.
Five sessions under the topics of intelligent algorithm, 5G, intelligent manufacturing, intelligent governance, and AI-based new life are to be convened during the summit, while an exhibition, as an indispensable part of the summit, is designated to showcase the latest AI products and technologies developed by Chinese companies, such as Huawei, Aliyun, Tencent, JD.com, Inspur Group, iFLYTEK, Haier, Suning, GREE, etc, according to Xi, who is also the deputy secretary general of the People's Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
Meanwhile, a signing ceremony for cooperation between China-ASEAN Information Hub and its global partners will also be held. From 2018 to 2025, about 100 billion yuan would be invested in building the China-ASEAN Information Hub, which is a national key project, said Wei Jiang, deputy director general of Guangxi's Big Data Development Bureau.
It is also learned that some premium AI and IT-related projects involving 8.5 billion yuan will be unveiled by Guangxi to attract domestic and foreign investments.
Wei Jiang noted that 119 big data and information technology projects with tens of billions yuan of investment were launched in the Big Data Industry Fair for Investment and Cooperation held in Beijing by the People's Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in late June, covering such fields as global positioning, smart city, high-end computer numerical control, cross-border e-commerce, modern agriculture, electronic sports and autonomous driving.
Guangxi's AI industry, glowing with unprecedented vitality and full of business opportunities, is emerging as a promising sector and a key area of cooperation with ASEAN countries, Wei said. (Edited by Qiu Jun, Qiujun@xinhua.org)
