BEIJING, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) – China is likely to witness a large-scale mobile phone replacement after the country’s first 5G smartphone model, ZTE Axon 10 Pro 5G from China's telecom equipment maker ZTE Corp, publicly went on sale on Monday.
China's two e-commerce giants Suning.com and JD.com both claimed to have sold the first domestic 5G mobile phone on Monday.
According to JD.com, the first 5G smartphone was delivered from its warehouse at midnight and ten minutes later a customer who lives in Beijing's Chaoyang district received the parcel.
At the same time, Suning.com said that its retail store in Beijing sold the country's first 5G mobile phones.
Besides, other smartphone companies such as OPPO, Xiaomi, OnePlus, etc., were expected to launch their own 5G mobile phones in the third quarter of this year.
Wen Ku, an official with the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, noted that China's 5G networks and terminals are becoming increasingly mature and nearly 20 smartphone models gear up to hit the market.
Every round of communication technology changes will inevitably trigger customer demand for mobile phone replacement, said Wen, adding that in the 5G era, the country's mobile phone market will also see a new round of handset replacement, which is a rare opportunity for any enterprise in the industry chain.
