InfoQuest (July 18, 2019) -- The export volume of cars recorded 97,575 units in June 2019, up 2.4 percent from the same month last year. Exports in both Asian and European markets saw a growth, creating a value of 51.353 billion baht, with year-on-year growth of 4.49 percent, according to Surapong Paisitpatnapong, vice chairman and spokesman of the Automotive Industry Club of the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI).

In the first half of 2019, the vehicles exported represented 559,861 units, declining 0.37 percent year on year. Total export value was 285.204 billion baht, felling 1.96 percent year on year.

Vehicles sold in domestic market in June 2019 reached 86,048 units, down 2.1 percent from the same period last year, hitting the first decline in 30 months, and down 2.3 percent from May 2019. The decline was due to stricter credit approvals from financial institutions and a higher base from the previous year. In the first half of this year, 523,770 units were sold, registering year-on-year growth of 7.1 percent.

Auto production in June 2019 realized 172,878 units, down 8.52 percent from the same period last year and 4.66 percent from May 2019. The overall decline was caused by the export slump in passenger cars and pickup vehicles, down 10.57 percent and 12.49 percent respectively, and the drop in domestic sales of these two, which decreased by 7.7 percent and 2.33 percent respectively. In the first half of this year, 1,065,945 units were produced, seeing year-on-year growth of 0.89 percent.
