InfoQuest, (July 18, 2019) -- After being appointed, Mr. Pipat Ratchakitprakan, new minister of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports (MOTS), held a meeting with high-level officials of MOTS to release relevant policies. He stressed that the priority is to build the confidence of tourists in Thai tourism and enhance tourist safety, and MOTS planned to release policy for community volunteers to help tourists.
Currently, the tourist objective of this year is not yet on the agenda. But efforts will be made to attract more tourists. As for tourism revenue, Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has set a goal of 3.8 trillion baht. However, no comments have been made yet before a discussion with the prime minister.
He admitted that the time limit of Visa on Arrival (VOA) fees exemption might be extended, and the details will be hammered out after communication with the former minister. Personally, he hoped to offer convenience to tourists as much as possible.
As for the influence of baht appreciation on tourism, the minister will discuss with the Ministry of Finance and governor of Central Bank to stabilize the exchange rate of baht at a proper range.
