China to accelerate computing power application to boost dev. of digital economy

Abstract :  China will further accelerate the application of high-performance computing and big data computing system and enhance the capacities of data analysis and knowledge discovery as part of efforts to speed up the development of digital economy.

BEIJING, July 15 (Xinhua) – China will further accelerate the application of high-performance computing and big data computing system, and enhance the capacities of data analysis and knowledge discovery as part of efforts to speed up the development of digital economy, according to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).

China continued dominating the list of the world's fastest supercomputers by the number of systems. The country topped the list with more than 200 systems, 173 of which were provided by Lenovo, according to a semi-annual ranking of the Top500 published recently.

China should strive to facilitate the improvement of computing power and accelerate its sharing, said Zhu Mingfa, a professor with Beihang University.

The country will continue to strengthen the research and development of big data technology products, encourage enterprises to step up innovation, accelerate the integration of resources for production, education and research, and push forward the coordinated development of software and hardware in a bid to inject fresh impetus into more industries, according to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).
