Chinese authorities to push forward deployment of IPv6-based network

July 12, 2019

Abstract : China will step up policy support to further accelerate the deployment of the Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6)-based Internet.

BEIJING, July 12 (Xinhua) – China will step up policy support to further accelerate the deployment of the Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6)-based Internet.

Promoting the deployment of IPv6 network and building the next-generation Internet with high speed, wide popularity, full coverage and high intelligence is considered as a comprehensive upgrade of the Internet technology industry, which plays a vital role in accelerating the integration and application of information technology and the promotion of economic and social development, Wang Xinzhe, chief economist with the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) said at the thematic forum on the development of IPv6 network, a sub-forum of China Internet Conference held in Beijing on Thursday.

At present, China's IPv6 deployment has achieved remarkable results. As of June this year, China had 130 million active users of IPv6, according to Wu Hequan, an academician with the Chinese Academy of Engineering.

Next, the country will strive to break through key core technologies, improve network service capacities, promote the transformation and upgrading of the application, and further strengthen network security, Wang noted.

China issued in 2017 a plan to encourage large-scale adoption of the IPv6 network. According to the plan, by the end of 2025, network and terminal devices will fully support the adoption of IPv6 in China and it will have the largest number of IPv6 users in the world by the end of 2025.
