Xiaomi targets young users with new smartphone series

July 03, 2019

Abstract : Chinese tech giant Xiaomi unveiled a new smartphone series Tuesday to win over more young consumers as the company seeks to gain a bigger share of the country's increasingly competitive smartphone market.

BEIJING, July 3 (Xinhua) -- Chinese tech giant Xiaomi unveiled a new smartphone series Tuesday to win over more young consumers as the company seeks to gain a bigger share of the country's increasingly competitive smartphone market.

The Mi CC series, designed to deliver the exceptional photography experience younger generations crave, come in trendy colors and feature powerful front camera and rear camera functions empowered by artificial intelligence (AI) technologies.

Three smartphones, the Mi CC9, Mi CC9e and Mi CC9 Meitu Edition were rolled out under the new series. The devices are equipped with the latest in-screen fingerprint sensor technologies -- with a faster unlock speed and a more successful recognition rate, as well as low-blue-light eye protection.

Targeting selfie lovers, the Mi CC9 Meitu Edition is the joint product of Xiaomi and photo editing app Meitu, with a unique AI low-light portrait feature that allows users to take beautiful, high-quality portraits in almost zero ambient light.

Xiaomi has stepped up expansion into niche markets in recent years. It turned its smartphone series Redmi into an independent brand in early 2019 to concentrate on developing smartphones catering to different groups of consumers.

The company reported a 27.2-percent increase in revenue in the first quarter of this year.

China's smartphone market rebounded in April and May after a sluggish performance for five consecutive months. Smartphone shipment rose 4.8 percent in May compared with April, industrial data showed.
