WUHAN, June 24 (Xinhua) -- A Boeing 747 cargo plane from Luxembourg loaded with 18 tonnes of Norwegian salmon arrived at Wuhan Tianhe International Airport Monday morning.
This was the first time that Norwegian salmon was transported to Wuhan, capital of central China's Hubei Province, through a cargo aircraft. In the past, only a small portion of salmon was sent to Wuhan by international passenger flights.
Most of the fresh food from abroad used to be imported through the ports in Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou before being transported to Wuhan by cold chain logistics.
Yang Anming, manager of Wuhan Yihaida International Trade Co. Ltd., said the batch of salmon was transported to Wuhan within 72 hours, reducing the transportation cost by 30 percent compared with passenger flights.
The cargo flights for salmon transportation will be operated three times a week in the future, according to Yang.
He Bin, deputy director of the cargo administration department of the Air Logistics Co. Ltd. under the Hubei Airports Group, said Hubei Province has offered a series of preferential policies and allocated subsidies to import and export enterprises as well as cargo flights as of last year.
