Between satisfactory and sufficient - that is how small and medium-sized enterprises rate the conditions in the German capital Berlin, according to a survey by the Berlin business development bank IBB and the Creditreform credit agency.
Companies find it particularly difficult to get skilled workers (rating of 4.0) and find sites (3.5). The infrastructure received the best score at 3.0, while companies rated as barely satisfactory the situation in terms of networking partners, labour costs, the scientific environment and the expertise for digitalisation.
Nevertheless, two-thirds of respondents said they were pleased to be in Berlin and every fifth company very much so.
The companies' business expectations for 2019 remain better than on the national level, the survey showed, although they have slightly deteriorated compared to last year. "An increasing unease about the future development of the economy appears to spreading also among Berlin medium-sized companies," the survey's authors said.
