BEIJING, June 12 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Hu Chunhua will co-host the 10th China-UK Economic and Financial Dialogue with British Chancellor of the Exchequer Philip Hammond on June 17, as the two sides are eying cooperation on trade, investment and other issues, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said Wednesday.
"During the Dialogue, China and Britain will have discussions on macroeconomic situation and global economic governance, trade and investment, megaproject cooperation and financial cooperation, as well as cooperation in new fields and those of strategic significance," spokesperson Geng Shuang said at a press briefing.
Founded in 2008, the Dialogue serves as an important mechanism for bilateral communication and policy coordination between China and Britain over economic and financial issues of strategic significance that have a long-term and overall bearing. Since then, the mechanism has effectively advanced bilateral cooperation in economy and finance, and served as an important platform for advancing the "golden era" of China-UK ties.
"We hope that through the dialogue this year, both sides will step up coordination over bilateral and international economic and financial issues of major significance and deepen mutual trust for the steady and sound development of bilateral economic ties," said Geng.
Economic ties between the two countries will be expanded and multilateral policy consultation will be increased. The two sides should work together for upholding multilateralism and championing trade and investment liberalization and facilitation to help forge an open world economy.
While fully expanding areas for cooperation on the basis of mutual benefit and win-win results, both sides will strengthen cooperation across the board in trade, investment, finance, science and technology, agriculture, the third-party market and other areas, to promote China-UK economic and financial cooperation to a higher level, the spokesperson added.
