BEIJING, June 11 (Xinhua) – A key tunnel of the China-Laos Railway was expected to be drilled through in the first half of next year, Kunming Daily reported recently.
Located at the junction of Yuanjiang County and Mojiang County, southwest China’s Yunnan Province, the tunnel, with total length of 11.3 kilometers, is one of the 17 major control tunnels in the whole line.
The China-Laos Railway is a strategic docking project between the China-proposed Belt and Road initiative and Laos' strategy to convert from a landlocked country to a land-linked hub.
The project was started in December 2016 and is scheduled to be completed and open to traffic in December 2021.
