BEIRUT, May 30 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Ambassador to Lebanon Wang Kejian exchanged on Thursday ideas with Lebanese lawmakers on ways to promote cooperation between China and Lebanon in various fields, said a statement by the Chinese Embassy in Lebanon.
"We have discussed with Lebanese lawmakers ways of boosting cooperation between the two countries in areas of economy, trade, infrastructure, construction and culture," Wang said.
The Chinese ambassador introduced the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and the historical development of bilateral relations between China and Lebanon.
He added that China supports Lebanon's sovereignty and independence, and it is willing to strengthen and support policies adopted by the Lebanese government while encouraging Chinese companies to come to Lebanon and explore mutually beneficial cooperation.
Meanwhile, Lebanese lawmakers expressed their wishes to see more achievements in the framework of cooperation between Lebanon and China under the BRI.
Proposed by China in 2013, the BRI refers to the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, aiming at building a trade and infrastructure network connecting Asia with Europe and Africa through the ancient trade routes of the Silk Road.
