SHANGHAI, May 28 (Xinhua) – A ship loaded with 100 tonnes of Cambodian bananas arrived in Shanghai last Friday, with declared value of 63,800 U.S. dollars.
This is the first time that Cambodian exported bananas to China after the two countries struck a deal on quarantine requirements of Cambodia’s banana exports to China in August last year.
According to Shanghai Customs, banana is the first Cambodian fruit exported to China and at present Cambodia has an annual output of 300,000 tonnes of bananas, which could meet the demands of Chinese market.
Statistics shows that China imported overall 897 million U.S. dollars worth of bananas last year, almost three-fold the figure for 2012. (Edited by Yang Yifan, yangyifan@xinhua.org)
