BEIJING, May 14 (Xinhua) -- More than 300,000 merchants in Japan have so far adopted Alipay, the mobile and online payment platform operated by Ant Financial Services Group (Ant Financial), Alibaba's financial arm, Eric Jing, chairman and CEO of Ant Financial said on Monday at a forum in Tokyo.
The volume of transactions through Alipay in Japan during the Labor Day holiday ranked the fourth globally, with average user spend via the online payment platform up 25 percent year on year, making Japan one of the best performing markets, according to data from Alipay.
Serving more than one billion users in Asia, Alipay and its partners will work to bring more Asian consumers to Japan, said Eric.
More than 90 percent Chinese tourists said they would be more willing to consume if overseas merchants support Alipay, and nearly 60 percent overseas merchants saw an increase in their revenue and foot traffic in their stores after they adopted Alipay, according to a report released by Nielsen, a world-leading research institute.
Alipay will collaborate with a wider range of merchants, enterprises and shops in Japan to build a more convenient shopping environment for tourists going to the country, particularly for the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, and drive Japanese economic development, said Eric. (Edited by Su Dan)
