China-aided satellite TV project for Ghana completes

May 13, 2019

Abstract : The China-aided satellite TV project for Ghana completed on May 10, starting the history of 300 communities in rural Ghana with access to digital television.

BEIJING, May 13 (Xinhua) -- The China-aided satellite TV project for Ghana completed on May 10, starting the history of 300 remote villigas in rural Ghana with access to satellite television.

The satellite TV project for Ghana is part of the China-Africa cooperation project under the name of Access to Satellite TV for 10,000 African Villages, which was put forward in 2015 at the Johannesburg Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation.

With completion of the project, people in remote villages across Ghana can watch clear and informative TV shows, and many children can enjoy better educational resources via satellite TV, according to Wang Shiting, Chinese Ambassador to Ghana.

Through the project, 660 Ghanaians have acquired technical training on the installation of satellite TV, which has given them skills needed to set up their own business, said George Andah, Deputy Minister of Communications of Ghana.

The satellite TV project for Ghana was implemented by StarTimes, a Chinese electronics and media company that will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of the project and the training of local employees in the next five years. (Edited by Su Dan)
