BEIJING, April 30 (Xinhua) -- China Construction Bank (CCB, 601939.SH), one of China's four major state-owned banks, received a license last Thursday to carry out financial services through its Astana Branch at the Astana International Financial Center (AIFC) of Kazakhstan.
The approval of the license, which was granted to CCB on the sidelines of the Second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in Beijing, represents a new breakthrough CCB has made in contributing to the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), and a significant achievement in improving its global service network as well as expanding the Central Asia market.
CCB is the first foreign bank to set up an operational institution in the AIFC. Its Astana Branch will provide quality financial support for the bilateral economic and trade exchanges, investment and capacity cooperation between China and Kazakhstan to boost interconnection between the two countries. Based on such efforts, CCB will move on to build a new financial communication and collaboration platform between China and Central Asia, according to CCB.
So far, CCB has established eight overseas institutions in countries and regions along the Belt and Road routes. (Edited by Su Dan)
