NANCHANG, April 26 (Xinhua) -- The Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China Ltd. (COMAC), China's major commercial aircraft developer, is building a production and test center in east China's Jiangxi Province.
The cornerstone laying ceremony of the center was held on Friday in Nanchang, capital of Jiangxi.
With an investment of 2 billion yuan (about 300 million U.S. dollars), the center will be mainly responsible for the interior installation, painting, flight test, delivery and maintenance of jetliner ARJ21.
The ARJ21 is China's first regional jetliner, with 78 to 90 seats and a range of 3,700 km. It can fly in alpine and plateau regions and is adaptable in various airport conditions. The first ARJ21 jetliner was delivered to Chengdu Airlines on Nov. 29, 2015.
The center is expected to start flight test and delivery of ARJ21 jetliners by the end of 2020.
COMAC is the developer of the C919 large passenger aircraft and ARJ21 regional jetliner.
