PRAGUE, April 25 (Xinhua) -- A traditional Chinese opera presented by the troupe from Nanchang County, Jiangxi Province staged in Prague Congress Centre, the Czech Republic on Wednesday night, kicking off its European tour to display the special culture of the East China province.
By staging a selection of well-known pieces such as Butterfly Lovers (Liang-Zhu), the performers intrigued both overseas Chinese and locals into the realm of original-flavored Chinese culture through fine librettos as well as skilled vocals and dancing.
Nanchang county is the cradle for Nanchang Caicha (or tea picking) opera, an intangible cultural heritage protection item. The Caicha opera European touring show is a “China-Europe culture train” to boost culture exchanges and dialogues, said Wang Zhonghua, head of the cultural tour to Europe.
Nanchang now has a train link with Europe since the first China-Europe freight train started running between Nanchang and Moscow of Russia in April 2018.
The touring show will act as a carrier for Nanchang to promote its city image in Europe, which could model for other Chinese cities in innovating “going-out” city branding, said Huang Yulong, legal representative with China book trading corporation under China International Publishing Group.
A cultural tourism photo exhibition presenting history and culture, folk customs, natural scenery as well as economic and social development is also presented at the performance site to provide further understanding of the Nanchang county.
Next, the Caicha opera troupe will tour Germany and the Netherlands on April 26 and April 29. (Edited by Niu Huizhe, niuhuizhe@xinhua.org)
