BEIJING, April 16 (Xinhua) -- Southwest China's Guizhou Province plans to develop 140,000 mu (15 mu=1 hectare) of ecological fishery farming in lake reservoirs and increase its comprehensive ecological fishery product breeding area in rice fields from 1.79 million mu last year to 2.6 million mu, reported the Xinhua-run Shanghai Securities News quoting Guizhou Daily.
Statistics showed that Guizhou boasts 1.34 million mu of lake reservoirs favorable for developing ecological fishery and 3.2 million mu of fishery product breeding area in rice fields, presenting great development potentials, said the report.
It also noted that the province has broad market prospects in developing ecological fishery due to its low per capita share of fishery products which stands at 7 kilograms, just 15.2 percent of the national average.
Besides, the province has listed ecological fishery as one of the 12 rural industries to be advanced with strong efforts recently.
Meanwhile, it also introduced a guideline on development goals, industrial layouts, brand strategy, supportive policies and technical support concerning ecological fishery, and established relevant institutions to provide related organizational support.
Next, the reported noted, Guizhou will provide support in fields like healthy aquaculture, market expansion, brand building and project implementation, in a bid to further boost the development of ecological fishery. (Edited by Gu Shanshan)
