SHENZHEN, April 12 (Xinhua) -- Chinese automaker Chongqing Changan Automobile Co., Ltd. reported Friday that vehicle sales in the first quarter of the year slump by 31.8 percent year-on-year.
Vehicle sales in the January-March period totaled 448,811 units, compared with 658,348 units in the same period last year, the automaker said in a filing to the Shenzhen Stock Exchange.
The sales figures include production by Changan's plant in Chongqing and its joint ventures, including Changan Ford and Changan Mazda, as well as Changan's subsidiaries.
In March alone, sales fell 26.9 percent year on year to 196,606 units.
China's auto market remained sluggish in the first quarter of the year, with sales down 11.3 percent year on year to 6.37 million units, data from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) showed Friday.
