The cabinet of Thailand approved over 30 billion baht fund in 2018

March 22, 2019

Abstract : Mr. Natthaporn Jatsriipitak, spokesman of Deputy Prime Minister for economic affairs, declared that the cabinet council (cabinet) approved the financial budget, central government budget, and budget for urgent and necessary projects of 2019.

InfoQuest (March 19, 2019) -- Mr. Natthaporn Jatsriipitak, spokesman of Deputy Prime Minister for economic affairs, declared that the cabinet council (cabinet) approved the financial budget, central government budget, and budget for urgent and necessary projects of 2019. The cabinet has allocated a total of 37.9 billion baht budget for public funds, involving economy, society, welfare, and other aspects. These funds will be used in four programs for low-income groups, including the program to lower the burden of utility bills, the program to lower the burden of year-end shopping, the program to lower the burden of senior citizens in medical care and traveling expenses, and the program to lower the burden of senior citizen in house renting.

The cabinet council also approved a newly-added licensed power benefit program for the navy, and included it in the program of lowering the burden of utility bills. The original program only covered Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) and Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA). But later it was found that there were still 51,000 people outside the service areas of the two agencies, who did not benefit from the above-mentioned programs. Therefore, the licensed power benefit program for the navy was offered to cover all low-income people.

"What we did is to allocate the 38.73 billion baht, approved by the cabinet late last year for economy, society, and welfare, to public funds. So it is not extra budget. As we approve budget and carry out programs in line with relevant procedures, we need to get more funds for the sustained implementation of these programs," said Mr. Natthaporn.

Mr. Natthaporn said that these programs will end in September 2019, and these funds will be enough for the implementation of the four programs for lowering the burden of low-income groups. If there are also such programs next year, greater budget should be approved.
