BEIJING, March 20 (Xinhua) -- East China’s Zhejiang province has decided to stop approving new sea reclamation projects in a bid to protect marine ecological environment.
According to a guideline issued by the provincial government, Zhejiang will stop the approval of new sea reclamation projects and strengthen the protection of coastal wetlands.
At the same time, Zhejiang will carry out an investigation on the status of sea reclamation, make a list of historical issues and formulate a solution plan.
Besides, the provincial government will strictly restrict the sea reclamation for real estate development, low-level construction of tourism and recreational projects and projects that pollute the marine ecological environment.
Zhejiang will maintain its retention rate of natural coastline above 35 percent by 2020. (Edited by Yang Yifan, yangyifan@xinhua.org)
