BEIJING -- How to realize modernization of China's domestic trade circulation? What do you think of the European Union's sharp investment increase in China? Ministry of Commerce (MOC) spokesperson Sun Jiwen responded on such hot issues in the regular press conference held on July 7.
--On questioning about environmental pollution brought by China's overseas investment
Some foreign countries blamed China's overseas investment for their local environmental pollution. Sun Jiwen replied that China's enterprises are conducting business within legal framework of the host countries and actively fulfilling their environmental protection duty.
China encourages enterprises to "go abroad" under the Belt and Road Initiative. By far, its overseas investment has exceeded 1 trillion U.S. dollars.
"China's MOC and Ministry of Environmental Protection have jointly formulated a guide encouraging China's enterprises to develop low-carbon, green economy in foreign countries and implement sustainable development strategy," said Sun, adding that China's overseas investment has not only improved its internationalization level, but also promoted local employment, which is a win-win result.
--On sharp increase of EU's investment in China
EU's investment in China has witnessed a hike since 2016. Statistics from the MOC showed that 28 EU members had established 555 enterprises in China during the first four months of 2016, up 5.1 percent year on year. The real investment of foreign capital had gained 41.9 percent on year to 22.1 billion yuan during the period.
"The sharp increase indicates strong complementary, sound cooperation foundation between China and EU, as well as firm confidence on China's economic prospect," said Sun, adding that China will continue to upgrade its openness level and create a more transparent and convenient investment environment for foreign investors.
--On promoting modernization of domestic trade circulation
Since 2016, the MOC has worked on three aspects to promote modernization of domestic trade circulation, which has achieved fruitful results.
Firstly, the MOC has strengthened construction of circulation infrastructure. The ministry is promoting the establishment of national agricultural product circulation networks, shortening the distance of agricultural products from farmland to dining table.
Secondly, the MOC has developed modern circulation mode to reduce costs. Try to promote the coordinative development of e-commerce and logistics, reduce logistic costs and improve efficiency.
Thirdly, China has made great efforts to create a legal, international and convenient environment. The MOC is accelerating the building of product traceability system and cracking down on selling fake and shoddy commodities.
