BEIJING, March 15 (Xinhua) -- China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has recently unveiled a document to specify the country's support for consumption of the new information products such as 5G, ultra high definition, consumer drones, virtual reality, and wearables.
The country will increase the policy support for new information consumption demonstration projects. For projects with good prospects and strong demonstration effects, financial support will be offered.
At the same time, the MIIT also encourages the local authorities to set up supporting funds for the projects and guide the private investment funds to invest in these promising projects, according to the document.
As a matter of fact, since the beginning of this year, the Chinese authorities have successively introduced action plans and work programs to promote the domestic consumption. The country proposed to promote the in-depth application of new information consumer products such as 5G terminals, virtual reality and high-definition video in various fields, showing the strong driving force for the information consumption.
The empowerment of 5G and other network infrastructure will drive the rapid development of new products and services such as ultra-high definition, consumer-grade drones and virtual reality, said Wang Qiuye, deputy director of the Office of the Information Consumption Promotion Alliance of China.
Wang pointed out that the boundary of networked devices will also extend from traditional information devices such as PCs, mobile phones and televisions to general items such as wearables and automobiles.
In 2018, the MIIT and the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) released a three-year action plan to expand and upgrade the information consumption.
According to the plan from 2018 to 2020, the information technology will help increase the combined output of related industries to 15 trillion yuan in 2020.
It is necessary to speed up the construction of network infrastructure such as 5G and cloud platforms so as to provide a good foundation for expanding the scale of information consumption, said Zhang Yingqiang, a researcher at China Center for International Economic Exchanges (CCIEE).
