BEIJING, March 15 (Xinhua) -- POWERCHINA International Group Limited has contracted the construction project of Koukoutamba hydropower station, which is planned to be built over the Bafing River on the border between Guinea and Mali, according to Guinea's Ministry of Energy and Water Resources.
With an installed capacity of 294 megawatts, the hydropower station is designed to generate electricity for Guinea, Mali, Senegal and Mauritania. The total investment of the project is 990 million euros.
The project is launched by Senegal River Basin Development Authority, an organization grouping Guinea, Mali, Mauritania and Senegal for the purpose of jointly managing the Senegal River and its drainage basin. The bidding process of the project was officially opened in 2016 and lasted for three years.
When the construction is completed, Compagnie Nationale du Rhône (CNR), a French electricity generation company, will take charge of the operation of the power station. (Edited by Li Wenxin, liwenxin@xinhua.org)
