BEIJING, March 11 (Xinhua) -- Sales of passenger cars in China, including sedans, sports utility vehicles (SUVs) and multi-purpose vehicles (MPVs) fell 19 percent year-on-year to 1.17 million units in February, according to the data released by China Passenger Car Association (CPCA).
Among the top ten car sales, nine of them saw decline in sales, and only the sales of Great Wall Motor increased 18.34 percent to 69,037 units.
Cui Dongshu, secretary general of CPCA, believed that the sales performance was affected by the Spring Festival in February.
Data showed that, the car sales of major joint venture brands fell 13.8 percent, with FAW-Volkswagen, SAIC-Volkswagen and SAIC-GM down 5.7 percent, 9.4 percent and 25 percent respectively.
Car sales of Chinese brands fell 27.5 percent, with 24 percent sales decrease in Geely Auto to 83,552 units and 18.4 percent decrease in SAIC Motor to 36,737 units. (Edited by Tong Wei, tongwei@xinhua.org)
