Increasing number of China-Europe freight trains supports Weihai's foreign trade

February 21, 2019

Abstract : The number of China-Europe freight trains travelling from Weihai, a major port city in east China’s Shandong Province has realized regular operation of once a week, according to Sinotrans Limited Weihai Branch.

BEIJING, Feb. 21 (Xinhua) -- The number of China-Europe freight trains travelling from Weihai, a major port city in east China's Shandong Province has realized regular operation once a week, according to Sinotrans Limited Weihai Branch.

It is noted that the train have successfully and continuously made 12 trips since December of 2018 till February 15 of this year.

The train on the route departs from Wendeng Station in Weihai on every Friday, arriving in Malaszewicze in Poland as well as Duisburg and Hamburg in Germany after being organized and transited in southwest China's Chongqing Municipality.

Compared with that of sea and air transportation, the shortened travel time with favorable transportation cost has brought more market competitiveness and development space for the train.

Since its launch, the train has mainly transported goods such as automobile spare parts and construction materials from Shandong's major marine cities including Weihai, Yantai and Qingdao.

The outbound source of goods transportation via the train has expanded to the Republic of Korea (ROK) and Japan due to the establishment of a new transportation channel connecting the ROK, Central Asia and Europe, of which outbound goods from the ROK accounting for one third of the total.

The China-Europe freight train from Weihai is expected to increase to two travels per week, according to Huang Pengtao, general manager of Sinotrans Limited Weihai Branch. (Edited by Jiang Feifan)
