BEIJING, Feb. 15 (Xinhua) -- Ports in China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region have shown a growth trend in trade with countries along the B&R routes, according to statistics from Urumqi Customs.
Specifically, Xinjiang's trade with 36 countries along the Silk Road Economic Belt and 21st Century Maritime Silk Road routes surpassed 291.54 billion yuan in 2018, an increase of 13.5 percent compared to the same period of 2017, accounting for 98.2 percent of the region's total foreign trade.
Among them, its export to the B&R countries totaled 152.11 billion yuan, a slight increase of 0.7 percentage point, and the import from these countries was 139.43 billion yuan, up 31.7 percent year on year.
Among the B&R countries, Russia and Central Asia countries were major trade partners of Xinjiang in 2018. During the period, the region's trade with Kazakhstan totaled 104.85 yuan, ranking first by volume among the B&R countries, and its trade with the Russia increased 37.5 percent to 61.31 billion yuan.
In terms of trade mode, general trade played a dominated role in Xinjiang's foreign trade and maintained rapid growth. The general trade with countries along the routes valued about 19.81 billion yuan, an increase of 34.3 percent, higher than the overall growth rate by 20.8 percentage points.
Mechanical and electrical as well as labor-intensive products were Xinjiang's major export commodities to B&R countries, while energy resources products were the main import commodities of Xinjiang from countries along the routes.
