BEIJING, Feb. 13 (Xinhua) -- South China's Hainan province is going to invest 11 billion yuan to promote optical fiber networks and upgrade its power grid, according to the Hainan Daily.

The province plans to inject more than 4 billion yuan to realize full coverage of optical fiber networks both in its urban and rural areas. By the end of 2019, fiber-optic broadband network and 4G network are expected to cover 99 percent of the province's rural areas. Administrative institutions and enterprises will be mobilized to facilitate the construction process with their respective resources.

Meanwhile, Hainan will effectively improve the quality of 4G networks in all parts of the province, accelerate 5G trials by prioritizing the application of Intelligent Connected Vehicles (ICV) in Boao Lecheng International Medical Tourism Pilot Zone, which are expected to be commercialized in the second half of 2019.

Furthermore, Hainan plans to complete the investment worth 7 billion yuan to comprehensively strengthen the structure of power grids at all levels of the province. Work focuses include improving the transferable power supply level of the distribution network, augmenting the coverage of the electricity cables in urban areas, rectifying potential safety hazards of the power grid, and offering better guarantee of the power supply.

In addition, as a pilot project, the province will build intelligent grid in chosen areas such as Boao Lecheng International Medical Tourism Pilot Zone, Haikou Jiangdong New District and the central business district of Sanya, transforming the province's power grid into a more digitalized one.
