BEIJING, Feb. 14 (Xinhua) -- Local authorities in China's Yangtze River Delta region have unveiled measures to cope with the acceleration of the aging society and also to promote enhancement of the quality of aged services under the background of regional integration.
New facilities including 80 day care centers, 200 canteens and 7,000 beds for seniors will be established in Shanghai to promote community endowment.
Jiangsu Province will set up 150 new day care centers and 25,000 nursing beds for seniors to help 1.4 million seniors in dinning, bathing and cleaning. The province will also provide free health examinations for 6 million seniors aged 65 and above.
Anhui will improve the pension system and accelerate the establishment of a sound social services system for the elderly. The province will build urban endowment service centers at three levels with the coverage to reach 60 percent.
Civil affairs authorities of Shanghai, Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Anhui had reached a consensus in Shanghai in May, 2018 on cooperation and development of senior care service in Yangtze River Delta region.
The four provinces agreed to share resources in senior care to solve detailed problems related to regional integration.
Seniors aged 60 or over in the region are forecast to reach 46 million by 2020, and 75 million by 2035, accounting for 21 percent and 33 percent of the permanent population respectively, according to a report by Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences (SASS).
