BEIJING, Feb. 2 (Xinhua) -- The Belt and Road construction has provided new opportunities for the cooperation between Northwest China's Gansu province and Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) in economy and trade, finance, and tourism, members of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) from Gansu province said at the provincial "two sessions".
Gansu is an important gateway to the Silk Road Economic Belt, while Macao is an important node of the 21st-century Maritime Silk Road. Two places have strong complementarity in various forms of cooperation, said Chen Xiaoping, vice president of the Bank of China Macao Branch (BOC Macao).
Statistics showed that Gansu province saw total value of foreign trade at 140 million yuan with Macao by the end of 2017. A total of 18 Macao-invested enterprises were established in Gansu, with a total investment of 34.27 million U.S. dollars, of which 21.22 million U.S. dollars by contract, and 4.29 million U.S. dollars in actual use, Chen introduced.
Chen also added that Gansu and Macao further strengthen financial cooperation by holding regular bank-enterprise matchmaking meetings, so as to better accompany Gansu’s enterprises during the process of going global in cross-border financing, trade financing, mergers and acquisitions, etc.
In recent years, Gansu and Macao have signed a series of MOUs to promote their cooperation in tourism. With Macao's extensive experience in cultural tourism and hotel management, Gansu and Macao can jointly develop the vast space in the B&R tourism market. (Edited by Li Wenxin, liwenxin@xinhua.org)
