China's fixed-asset investment up 5.9 pct in 2018 -- China's fixed-asset investment (FAI) grew 5.9 percent year on year in 2018, 0.5 percentage point faster than that recorded in the first three quarters, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said on January 21. The FAI amounted to 63.56 trillion yuan (9.38 trillion U.S. dollars) last year, according to the NBS. Private investment, accounting for about 62 percent of the total, posted a vigorous 8.7-percent increase, picking up pace from the 6-percent growth in 2017.

China's industrial output expands 6.2 pct in 2018 -- China's industrial output expanded 6.2 percent year on year in 2018, slowing from the 6.6-percent growth in 2017, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said on January 21. The figure was narrowed from the 6.3-percent growth in the Jan.-Nov. period last year, according to the NBS. In December alone, China's industrial output expanded 5.7 percent, accelerating from 5.4-percent growth in November.

China's per capita consumer spending up 6.2 pct in 2018 -- China's per capita consumer spending increased by 6.2 percent year on year in real terms to reach 19,853 yuan (2,877 U.S. dollars) in 2018, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said on January 21. The growth rate was 0.8 percentage point higher than that recorded in the previous year. In breakdown, consumer spending in urban areas rose 6.8 percent year on year to 26,112 yuan, 0.9 percentage point higher than that recorded in the previous year.

China's property investment up 9.5 pct in 2018 -- China's investment in property development grew 9.5 percent year on year in 2018, 2.5 percentage points faster than the pace in 2017, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said on January 21. The total property investment last year surpassed 12 trillion yuan (about 1.77 trillion U.S. dollars), the NBS said. The investment in residential buildings, accounting for more than 70 percent of the total, rallied 13.4 percent from a year ago in 2018, speeding up from the 9.4-percent increase in 2017.

China's resident disposable income rises 6.5 pct in 2018 -- China's per capita disposable income stood at 28,228 yuan (4,165 U.S. dollars) in 2018, up 6.5 percent year on year in real terms, official data showed on January 21. Separately, urban and rural per capita disposable income reached 39,251 yuan and 14,617 yuan in 2018, up 5.6 percent and 6.6 percent in real terms after deducting price factors, respectively, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

Chongqing's economic growth slows to 6 pct in 2018 -- Southwest China's Chongqing Municipality reported a slower economic growth last year as its traditional pillar industries lost steam. Its GDP expanded 6 percent year on year to 2.04 trillion yuan (299 billion U.S. dollars) in 2018, the municipal statistics bureau announced on January 22.Chongqing's economy expanded 9.3 percent year on year in 2017, ending a 15-year streak of double-digit growth. Data showed the industrial output for the auto industry in Chongqing declined 17.3 percent year-on-year in 2018 amid a sluggish car market.

Sichuan's GDP reaches 598 bln USD in 2018 -- Southwest China's Sichuan Province reported GDP of 4,067.8 billion yuan (597.9 billion U.S. dollars) in 2018, rising 8 percent from the previous year. Xiong Jianzhong, spokesman of the provincial statistics bureau, said on January 22 that it only took three years for Sichuan to increase its GDP from 3 trillion yuan to 4 trillion yuan. The service sector saw faster growth of 9.4 percent, contributing to over half of the GDP for the first time, Xiong told a press briefing.

Shanghai's GDP grows 6.6 pct in 2018 -- Shanghai's gross domestic product totaled 3.27 trillion yuan (480 billion U.S. dollars) last year, up 6.6 percent year on year, the municipal statistics bureau announced on January 22. The reading was slightly lower than the 6.9-percent increase in 2017, but kept pace with the country's 6.6-percent growth last year. The tertiary industry was the largest contributor, accounting for 69.9 percent of the total.

Hainan's foreign trade volume up over 20 pct in 2018 -- The foreign trade volume of south China's island province of Hainan exceeded 84.9 billion yuan (12.5 billion U.S. dollars) in 2018, up 20.8 percent, Haikou customs said on January 22.The province's export volume totaled 29.8 billion yuan, up 0.7 percent, while the import volume reached 55.1 billion yuan, with an increase of 35.4 percent over the previous year.

Guizhou's GDP grows 9.1 pct in 2018 -- The southwestern Chinese mountainous province of Guizhou continued to report one of the fastest economic growth rates nationwide last year. Its GDP expanded at an annual pace of 9.1 percent to over 1.48 trillion yuan (217 billion U.S. dollars) in 2018, Xiao Yunhui, director of the provincial statistics bureau, told a press briefing Tuesday. The rate was 2.5 percentage points higher than the national GDP growth.

China's farm produce prices rise slightly -- Prices of farm produce in China rose slightly in the week ending Jan. 20, according to the Ministry of Commerce. The price index for farm produce edged up 1 percent from the previous week, while the index for production materials remained flat. The average wholesale price of 30 types of vegetables went up 5.1 percent, compared with a 0.5 percent rise a week earlier.
