BEIJING, Jan. 23 (Xinhua) -- A new China-Europe freight train line was launched on Tuesday, linking east China's Xuzhou City in Jiangsu Province with Moscow, capital city of Russia.
The first 50-carriage train, loaded with 100 TEUs, departed from Xuzhou on last Friday and will travel around 6,700 km to reach Moscow in 15 days.
Xuzhou Construction Machinery Group Co., Ltd. is the first client of the freight train service, with 858 tonnes of goods worth 15.15 million yuan exported to Russiavia the train.
The Xuzhou-Moscow freight train will give a strong impetus to the role of Xuzhou as the central city of the Huaihai Economic Belt.
The China-Europe freight trains refer to the container trains supporting freight flow between China and Europe, and the countries along the Belt and Road routes.
Since its launch in 2011, the China-Europe freight trains have developed rapidly. In particular, in 2018, the China-Europe freight trains made 6,300 trips, up 72 percent year on year. (Edited by Wu Shuang, wushuang2018@xinhua.org)
