BEIJING, Jan. 18 (Xinhua) -- China's express delivery services grew rapidly in 2018, the State Post Bureau (SPB) said on Wednesday.
According to statistics released by SPB, China’s express delivery firms handled 50.71 billion parcels in 2018, up 26.6 percent from the same period of last year and saw the business revenue total 603.84 billion yuan, a year-on-year growth rate of 21.8 percent.
The annual business revenue of postal industry totaled 790.47 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 19.4 percent and the total business volume amounted to 1,234.52 billion yuan, an increase of 26.4 percent, the SPB statistics showed.
In 2018, a total of 1.11 billion parcels were delivered in international express services, up 34 percent year on year.
Regionally, South China's Guangdong Province ranked first in the express delivery industry with the business volume of 12.96 billion parcels and 141.17 billion yuan, followed by Zhengjiang Province and Shanghai; while Northwest China's Ningxia reported the fastest growth rate of over 80 percent.
In 2018, the domestic express delivery industry saw a further concentration, with the concentration ratio standing at 81.2, compared with 78.7 in 2017.
According to YTO Express, express delivery is expected to maintain its rapid growth in 2019, due to the changes in consumption structure and rapid growth in the central and western regions.
In addition, the rapid development in cross-border e-commerce will accelerate overseas expansion and concentration in leading enterprises for logistics services.
The growth rate of the express delivery industry is expected to exceed 20 percent on basis of SPB data. (Edited by Wu Shuang, wushuang2018@xinhua.org)
