BEIJING, Jan. 14 (Xinhua) -- China will encourage the consumption of goods and services provided by people living under the poverty line to increase their income, according to official guidelines released Monday.
The country will offer incentives for public and private institutions to purchase goods produced in the impoverished regions, while expanding the sales channels of farm produce in these areas, according to the guidelines released by the State Council.
Product quality in poor areas should be enhanced while local infrastructure should be improved so that rural tourism could be developed, according to the guidelines.
Mechanisms should be improved to encourage the poor to participate in the sales of products and services.
The battle against poverty is one of the "three tough battles" that China must win to build a moderately prosperous society in all respects by 2020. To achieve the goal, the country needs to lift around 30 million poor rural residents out of poverty between 2018 and 2020.
