BEIJING, Jan. 14 (Xinhua) -- Chinese authorities have recently unveiled a document to promote establishment of a market-oriented and diversified compensation mechanism for ecological protection.
By 2020, China will initially establish such a mechanism, guided by the concept that the beneficiaries will pay and the protectors will receive reasonable compensation.
The authorities will strengthen the top-level design, reinforce innovative institutional mechanisms, and achieve positive interactions between ecological protectors and beneficiaries, so that ecological protectors can get tangible benefits.
Experts said that the establishment of a diversified and market-oriented ecological protection compensation mechanism will play an important role in the ecological protection and environmental governance. In the future, the country will further improve the system of paid use of natural resources such as land, water, minerals, forest, grassland and sea.
It is reported that China will further explore the establishment of emission trading system and carbon emission rights offset mechanism in ecological protection areas in the future. (Edited by Hu Pingchao, hupingchao@xinhua.org)
