BEIJING, Jan. 14 (Xinhua) – China's registered motor vehicles hit 327 million in 2018 with licensed drivers reaching 409 million, the Traffic Management Bureau of China's Ministry of Public Security said on January 11.
According to the ministry, as of the end of 2018, China's registered automobiles increased by 10.51 percent year on year to 240 million.
Small passenger cars, the main contributor to the growth of registered automobiles, exceeded 200 million for the first time and up 11.56 percent year on year.
Private cars grew rapidly, reaching 189 million in 2018, while trucks hit 25.7 million.
A total of 61 cities in China have over 1 million automobiles registered each, while eight cities each have more than 3 million automobiles registered, said the ministry.
Besides, the registered new energy automobiles reached 2,610,000, accounting for 1.09 percent of the total registered automobiles and up 70 percent year on year.
The ministry also said that licensed drivers for automobiles amounted to 369 million, accounting for 90.28 percent of the total licensed drivers for motor vehicles. (Edited by Gu Shanshan)
