BEIJING, Jan. 4 (Xinhua) -- China Southern Airlines (01055.HK, 600029.SH) announced on Wednesday that its shareholder Qatar Airways Group Q.C.S.C (Qatar Airways) had acquired 5 percent of its stake after the deal completed on December 28, 2018, according to a filing by the Chinese airline to Shanghai Stock Exchange.
Qatar Airways bought 8,600 A-shares and 6,000 H-shares of China Southern Airlines in the recent deal, according to the filing.
The deal was part of the Middle Eastern carrier’s strategic investment for enhancing its operation capacity and network connectivity, said the filing.
China Southern Airlines said Qatar Airways may consider to further increase its stake in the Chinese airline in the next 12 months.
China Southern Airlines, which is based in South China’s Guangzhou city, is the country's largest carrier with a fleet of more than 800 aircraft, ranking first in Asia and third worldwide. (Edited by Su Dan, Niu Huizhe)
