BEIJING, Jan. 2 (Xinhua) -- The Ministry of Ecology and Environment and South China's Hainan Province lately have reached an agreement on cooperation in promoting the construction of ecological pilot zone and enhancing green development in Hainan.
According to the agreement, the two sides will further deepen cooperation in nine key areas such as top-level design of ecological environment protection, pollution prevention and high-quality development of green economy.
The cooperation aims to advance Hainan's development into a high standard and high-quality free trade zone with ecological environment.
The agreement specifies that the most stringent ecological environmental protection mechanism will be adopted in Hainan.
Hainan will ban the development of high-energy, high-pollution, high-emission industries and deepen low-carbon pilot demonstration, turning itself into a carbon-neutral island.
Moreover, Hainan will scientifically develop and utilize sea islands and comprehensively strengthen the construction of ecological islands and reefs.
